Big monsters require big weapons, and they don’t get much larger than the almighty Great Sword. It’s time to cleave monsters in two with your very own big, sharp stick.

Many months in the making, my Great Sword build guide for Rise has arrived in full force! Check out ten different sets to suit almost any gameplay style involving slashing, and use this build tool to tailor sets to your own talisman collection: https://mhrise.wiki-db.com/sim/?hl=en . For PC players, you will need to edit the Punishing Draw set until version 3.7 is live, as it uses the USJ event armor currently only available on Switch. Keep in mind that any levels of evade extender will mess up spacing for TCS wakeups, and also don’t forget that wirebug whisperer is always a great quality of life skill if you ever have room on a build, since it can help chain together more hunting edges, or get out out of trouble with a clutch wirefall.
I did not include a Bubbly Dance build in this video because of the skill requirements necessary. Since Great Sword builds essential require Focus level 3, it really restricts build freedom compared to the Hammer. Plus, you don’t really evade much with Great Sword outside of a Power Sheathe, making that skill not as useful. Keen eyes may notice in the intro that I used both an ACS and Hunting Edge in the same sequence. This is normally not possible since they occupy the same slot. Since this was meant to be a cinematic showcase, I used a soft-mod to allow me to swap between switch skills on-the-fly. This entire sequence was done solo and offline.
Shout out to the folks at r/MonsterHunterMeta for the basis of many of these sets!
All gameplay captured on a Nintendo Switch mostly with the Elgato 4K60S+. The super-smooth sections you may notice are slow-mo clips sped up to display at full-speed.
In-game graphical/soundtrack assets used are all from the Monster Hunter Rise game published by Capcom.
