This is so hard. Surge slash is a very different playstyle, that i find satisfying to master, but apart from just overall doing a lot less damage than Strong Arm Stance spam, positioning is insanely hard sometimes with it.
One nice thing about Nargacuga is that parrying the frontal tail swipe makes you move closer to her if your positioning is perfect. This is not something I’ve mastered yet as normally my brain is too busy thinking about everything else i need to do.
This helps a lot when it works though. Except even when it does work sometimes its hard to judge how you respond after countering as many windows are very tight. The double spin attack is normally the go to as it gives you continued hyper armor after you proc the SAS parry, but the triangle+circle/X+A/Y+B attack has better range most of the time. And its so very hard to judge what is close enough to hit with this style.
For me Redirection with surge slash is a necessity against monsters as fast as nargacuga for any kind of consistency, and also good for using when your health is too low to safely use strong arm. I used to like backslide too, but powersheathe is better for repositioning, even if i also have a hard time still judging when i can use it safely.
